How Up at Night Comedy got started...
Nicholas McGee founded the production company as a college freshman. With the help of his fellow TV/film production major friends, talented college actor buddies, and Hofstra University's campus TV show Thursday Nite Live, Nick has been able to produce a boatload of hilarious comedy shorts during his four years of college...whatever a boatload is.
Before Up at Night Comedy and before entering college, Nick already had a strong love for creating video shorts. From the time Nick was 8 years old, he began creating video shorts with his neighborhood friends and his dad’s VHS camcorder. Some of the homemade VHS classics include “Dr. Albert,” “Nature Boy,” and “Scottie O’Man.” Then came 2005 and YouTube and the creation of some of Nick’s more notorious yet ingenious works which included “Tedward Tripodhands,” "Devil Barbie," "Meal or No Meal," a To Catch A Predator spoof, and several others.
While making video shorts during the day, Nick religiously spent his nights watching late night comedy programming. Starting at the age of 10, once everyone was asleep in the house, Nick would cautiously turn on the 13-inch tube television that sat on the Lego table in his bedroom. He would then painstaking walk the TV’s antenna rabbit ears around his bedroom until he found an acceptable reception to then jerry-rig those antenna ears to the closest object. Late Night with Conan O'Brien, Saturday Night Live, Late Show with David Letterman, Seinfeld, and MADtv were huge influences in sparking Nick’s passion, motivation, and style for comedy. (...Not to mention the collection of John Hughes' films on VHS under Nick's bed.)
To this day, Nick continues to be a devout sketch comedy and late night television watcher and scholar...HENCE the name: Up at Night Comedy!
Nick is also a regular performer of stand-up and improv comedy at showcases around his college's campus, as well at a few venues in the Greater NYC area. He plans on continuing to perform comedy for live audiences until the day he kicks the old bucket of butter! (Disclaimer: Do not place old buckets of butter within eight feet of Nick at any time. Kicking may place him at risk.)
