After Afternoon with Josh Lovell was a college late night TV show that I produced with my good friend Mike Braithwaite for one of our advanced level TV production courses.
We created the whole show from scratch in only 5 weeks (February- March 2015). During that time, I was also interning three days a week in the Writers' Department at The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, as well as taking an additional three other advanced level TV production courses. It was a busy semester to say the least, haha.

Our guests were Senior Editor of MAD Magazine, Charlie Kadau; sketch comedy troupe, Cool Kid Comedy; and musical guest, Mike Tedesco.
During the time of the production, Hofstra University's Lawrence Herbert School of Communication only had standard definition studio cameras, so we hired a professional engineer to come in and hook up five high-definition DSLRs to a multi-cam switcher. So if you're wondering why the image looks a bit odd at times, that's why. The rigged setup had its downfalls/ technical errors at times, but overall we think It was beneficial to the production. Not only did we have our show in HD; we were also able to re-direct the show's takes in post-production. Of course, one month after we graduated, the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication finally installed high-definition studio cameras in the building. Our luck....
My co-producer and I are very honored because the Hofstra Entertainment Access Television (HEAT) club has adapted After Afternoon as the club's 5th television for the 2016 and on school years. Since 2001, the club has had only FOUR total TV shows, and After Afternoon has now been adapted as the club's first new TV show in several years. We are thrilled, and we hope the current and future TV/film students of Hofstra can continue to make After Afternoon a fun show.
After Afternoon with Josh Lovell was high inspired by Late Night with Conan O'Brien (1993-2009), Late Night with David Letterman (1982-1993), Late Night with Seth Meyers, and Jimmy Fallon's Late Night/Tonight Show.
We really love Late Night with Conan/Letterman's irrelevant, wacky, and edgy humor. We also tried to channel Letterman's "anti-network" humor, but obviously since After Afternoon is a college show, we made our show "anti-university"--- instead of making fun of the network, we poked fun at Hofstra University.
The part of the show we struggled most with was writing the monologue jokes. We didn't want the jokes to become irrelevant within one week of the news cycle, so we focused the mono writing on mostly human interest stories. We had about 60 monologue jokes written before hand, and then 12 of them were actually read during the taping, and only about 7 of them made the final cut. If we had all day, we could've read all our jokes and picked the best 10 in post, but one of the class requirements was that we only had 2 hours to begin and finish the taping of the show. Major props to professional monologue writers. They make it look easy.
We also have a 55-minute cut of the show (which is more jam-packed with studio sketches and pre-recorded packages), but we figured asking for peoples' attention for 35 minutes is already asking enough.

COMEDY SHORT CLASSICS: |
"Cult: What's in the juice?" A package made for Hofstra University's comedy sketch TV show, Thursday Nite Live. This aired as a 2-part segment (Spring 2013). Written, produced, and directed by Nick McGee Starring- Max Knoblauch, Mike Braithwaite, Josh Lovell, Dan Johnson, Mike Bialek, and John Yostpille Shot/edited- Nick McGee PAs- Grant Salgaller and John Neal "Oh, Jesus: the Second Coming" A video my RTVF64 group and I made for class. We tried to make a comedy/drama in a classic sitcom type of format in approx 4 minutes and 30 seconds. Obviously we didn't shoot it multi-cam on a studio set like the classic TV sitcom but we tried our best to replicate it with single-cam. We also attempted to advocate more theater like acting in scene two by limiting the amount of cuts. Producers: Nick McGee, Andrew Wood, and Will Ketcham. Edited and Graphics by Nick McGee Starring: Josh Lovell, Kayla Engeman, and Mike Braithwaite Disclaimer: The religious portrayal in this video does not necessarily reflect the beliefs and opinions of the video's creators. |

BIOfoneTech's "SmartSkin" (Satire)
A satirical short I made for Hofstra University's sketch TV show "Thursday Nite Live." I made this during the peak of the iPhone 6 release and craze. The video starts off like your typical phone commercial, but it becomes very nuts by the end, haha. This aired as a two-part segment on TNL. (Fall 2014) CEO Timothy Bakewell and VO- Nick McGee Doctor Fargenstein- Michael Braithwaite Jake McDay from Bismarck, ND- Tyler Krastins Hackers- Dan Johnson and Taylor Zaudtke PA- Michael Braithwaite Written/Directed/Edited/Graphics- Nick McGee Created with the Adobe Creative Cloud. "Baking Bad"
My group and I made this project for our RTVF64 class. This was originally suppose to be a longer piece but we had to cut it down to under 2 minutes for the project requirements. If you couldn't tell, "Baking Bad" is a spoof of AMC's Breaking Bad, haha. We also worked on a budget of $16.28, two bags of doritos, and a party clown who told us he was good with makeup.
