I recently found these great photos while surfing the web. I thought it would be stupid not to share them. The photos feature some of my favorite comics of all time (Louis CK, Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert, Robert Smigel, Bob Odenkirk, and Steve Carell). I'm excited to be hosting Haha Hofstra's Exam Cram Comedy Jam this Friday, May 2nd at the Netherlands Core (Hofstra University, Hempstead, NY). The show begins at 8:00pm and we will be having many of Hofstra's funniest people on the stage. There will be several performances by comedians from Haha Hofstra, with also some improv from Hofstra's comedy troupe Tequila Mockingbird....and to top the night off, there will even be some music from Mike Tedesco (not featured on the flyer to the left, because we kind of lost the Pep band) . It's going to be a great night full of laughs and joy. I can't believe I'm even allowed to host this thing...who the hell let me host this thing...SEE YOU ALL THERE! Friday, May 2nd 8:00 PM Netherlands Core (Hofstra University) When I first heard the breaking news that David Letterman would be retiring from the Late Show, I immediately became upset. Even though I knew Dave was bound to retire eventually (I mean he has been in late night television for over 30+ years), I was still sad to hear that he had finally decided to hang up his hat. I've been watching the Late Show for quite some time now, and Dave's wry humor and wit has always made me laugh. He is, hands down, one of the best late night TV interviewers of all time. Sometimes I go on YouTube to just watch a bunch of random interviews that Dave has done over the years. David Letterman will surely be missed from our television screens. When I heard that Stephen Colbert would officially be taking over the Late Show though, I was ecstatic. Trying to fill the shoes of David Letterman is a very daunting task, but CBS made the fantastic choice of choosing Stephen Colbert. There is no better choice. Stephen is perfect for the Late Show. The amount of energy and entertainment value that Stephen can bring to the TV screen is remarkable. Even though Stephen will now have to drop his satirical character that he has been doing over the past nine years, Mr. Colbert is a longtime entertainer and comedian. Stephen’s transition into his actual “self” for the Late Show will come to him in utter ease. I’ve been in the audience for four tapings of The Colbert Report before, and before every show, Stephen comes out and talks to the audience without being in his character persona. And every time Stephen was absolutely hysterical. He even brought tears to my eyes. Stephen and his staff have been greatly influencing the American population since 2005, with many awards already under their belts. When they all move over to the Late Show in 2015, I’m sure they’ll continue to pile on the accolades. Over the years, David Letterman has publicly humiliated several right-wing pundits during his interviews. I’m sure Stephen Colbert will take the opportunity to do the same exact thing when he takes over the Late Show, continuing the fire he has had with The Colbert Report. After months of saving up work money, 21st birthday money, and holiday gift money; I was finally able to purchase from Amazon a Canon 6D with a 24-105mm f4 L lens. I'm ecstatic to finally have a full-frame camera (and L lens) on my hands. I've only had the 6D for a couple of days now and I'm already in love. Over the past two and half years, I've been shooting mostly with a Canon Rebel T3i with mediocre lenses. I can't complain and say the T3i never did its justice in performing its duties (it's a great camera, especially considering its crazy low price). The Canon 6D just wins by far when it comes to performance superiority. Some of my favorite qualities of the Canon 6D comes with the camera's video function (...of course). With the 6D, you can choose to shoot in either low compressed (All-I) or high compressed (IPB) video. Shooting in low compressed video is a huge plus when it comes to post-production work. The 6D is also a full-frame camera with huge exposure latitude, great color space, impressive ISO ranges with unseeable noise, and a list of other impressive features/specs. I'm crazy excited to start shooting some new Up at Night Comedy digital shorts with it. Dr. Steve Brule continues to bring tears to my eyes. So far, season three of Check It Out! with Dr. Steve Brule has been absolutely hilarious. John C. Reilly continues to show how much of a diverse actor he really is. His career started out with him playing more serious roles, but Reilly's funny side has been showing much more over these past few years...And I love it. I hope John never stops producing with Tim and Eric. I'm looking forward to the last three episodes of Check It Out! season three to air. The first three episodes of this season seemed to be a slight more darker than the first two seasons, and I wonder if that trend will continue. CHECK OUT Check It Out! with Steve Brule on the Adult Swim website.
If you're a Hofstra student or happen to be on Long Island, NY tonight, come see Haha Hofstra's first comedy showcase of the semester. I will be performing as the last stand-up comic of the night, with several hilarious peeps performing before me. One of Up at Night Comedy's biggest contributors as well as one of my biggest buddies, Dan Johnson, will be hosting. If you're interested in what my material will be about tonight, I won't give it away, but I'll give you some clues: the precautions of future long-distance traveling, the word "city", and the Polar Express sequel....I'm not telling you anything else! You'll have to come tonight to hear it all. I hope to see you there! I also hope you like the goofy Putin flyer I made for the show as well. Tonight- Friday, February 28th Spiegel Theater 8:00pm Ladies and Gentleman, keep your ears and eyes open for a man named Thomas Middleditch. No...he's not in trouble, but he is featured in the video above, The Morning After, a funny short about the situation a man gets himself into after a one night stand. The video was produced by Broadway Video's Above Average Productions (The full series of The Morning After is fantastic btw. Check it out). I have a strong feeling it won't be long before Thomas Middleditch becomes a household name. He first emerged from the comedy scene when he began performing at Chicago's Second City and at the UCB Theaters in both NY and LA years back. You might have noticed him recently when he made an appearance in Academy Award-nominated film The Wolf of Wall Street. He played a goofy broker who unfortunately got his goldfish eaten by Jonah Hill's character. He has also recently made appearances on programs such as The League, Key and Peele, The Pete Holmes Show, and also The Office, where he played Jeb Schrute, Rainn Wilson's brother (Middleditch would have also played the same role if Dwight Schrute's spin-off show hadn't been put off). I'm also EXTREMELY excited to say that we will be seeing Mr. Middleditch on the big screen this upcoming fall when he stars in comedy film, Search Party (directed by Scot Armstrong), with strong supporting cast members such as TJ Miller, Jon Glaser, JB Smoove, Krystan Ritter, and Jason Matzoukas. We can also anticipate to hear Thomas Middleditchin's voice in our theaters in 2017 when we see him in my favorite child superhero's movie, Dav Pilkey's Captain Underpants, where he will voice the character of Harold Hutchins. The film will also be produced by Dreamworks...so you know it will be good. For another absolutely hilarious online short of Thomas Middleditch, I recommend you check out this short film, Michel Jean-Michel: Overexposed. I was absolutely ecstatic when I found out that former SNL cast member, Fred Armisen, would be taking the job as the Late Night band leader. Besides Fred consistently being one of the funniest guys on the planet over the past decade (SNL and IFC's Portlandia, including numerous appearances on other comedy programs), Fred is also a very talented musician. He has been playing the drums for quite some time now, even before comedy came into picture. Back in the 90's, Fred was the drummer for Chicago based punk band Trenchmouth before also joining the Blue Man Group. It was after those years of Fred rocking his midwest drums before he finally found his stardom in the comedy world. Not only can you expect Fred to bring his A-game to the drum set on February 24th, when Seth Meyer's takes over Late Night, but you can also bet your shoes that Fred Armisen will bring his comedy genius to the plate. I predict that many of Fred's lovable characters from the past (especially ones from the Weekend Updates) will be making appearances on Seth's show, as well as many new characters. Mr. Armisen will definitely be adding a great dynamic to the Late Night franchise, and I'm absolutely thrilled to see him on my TV screen this late February. Some of my college buddies and I recently watched on Netflix the 2013 film "Drinking Buddies" (Directed and written by Joe Swanberg). The movie stars (from left to right in photo) Ron Livingston, Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson and Anna Kendrick. Olivia Wilde's real-life fiance, Jason Sudeikis, even makes a small appearance in the film.
The movie is a comedy more than anything else, but it does have strong romantic qualities. I'm not going to give away any parts of the film because I don't like being a spoiler, but if you like to laugh, like light-hearted indie films, and love beer, you'll find yourself enjoying "Drinking Buddies." I highly admire how director Joe Swanberg directed the film. He wrote the whole plot and outline for the film...but he never wrote any dialogue. That's right, the whole movie was improvised by the actors...and they did a great job under Swanberg's direction. In my opinion, the improvisational approach to the dialogue (with the visual style of the film) gave the movie a nice relatable and naturalistic feel. Anyways, I recommend you go and watch "Drinking Buddies" on Netflix! As a long time Conan fan, I automatically get excited whenever I see Jordan Schlansky make an appearance on my television screen. Jordan Schlansky has been a producer and employee of Conan O'Brien's for some time now, ever since Conan had Late Night. And for quite some time now, Conan has been giving Jordan a hard time (...and many would say, a hard time well deserved) but every single second shared on the screen together, Conan consistently has brought me to tears of laughter. In the video above, Conan delivers again in the hilarity when he makes an appearance in Jordan's messy office unexpectedly and then continues to heckle him about his bad office habits. Hysterical. Click here to watch one of Conan's first packages with Jordan Schlansky back in the Late Night with Conan O'Brien days.
